Raphael Holoman-Franklin is a career muti-state and international scam artist and thief who stole thousands from Cambridge residents in 2008/2009 via rent scamming. He also took money from Trinity Church, Boston, under false pretenses. In late 2010, this jerk, after having fled Cambridge the year before, returned to Cambridge as a "rape victim" and accused me of rape and domestic abuse, set in the context of a fake 8 year long "relationship", in retaliation for this victims blog. His false accusations, backed with NOTHING, "entitled" him (and he FEELS entitled) to all kinds of free "support" and assistance in "getting his shattered life back together" as an "abuse victim". Bits of old information about Rafey keep popping up. Sewn together, they form a tapestry that would fill Harvard Stadium. Today I happened to come across an NECN news video from 2009, in which Holoman-Franklin, calling himself "Raphael Holoman" (one of several aliases that he uses) talks about the wonderful food that he gets from "Food for Free" in Cambridge. He's described in the story as being a person who is "unemployed and who fell on hard times in recent years". BULL. Holoman-Franklin was our housemate for 2 months in 2008, coming here after stealing from victims in NYC. He scammed our landlord Cliff Truesdell at 29 Essex out of some $6,000, then moved to 16 Salem Street and scammed owner Tom Queisser out of some $12,000. (He told both landlords and other people that he was employed by Trinity Church, Boston.) While lining his pockets with rent scam cash, Rafey Fakey was also busy collecting money from Trinity Church as a "deserving person", and getting free food as a deserving person from Food for Free. With this free food, Raphael did what any unemployed, "fallen on hard times", assistance-deserving person would do: he donned his trademark jacket and jaunty, oh-so-English ascot, and threw dinner parties at "his home at 16 Salem Street", which he eventually sublet, pocketing thousands. Raphael steals copiously with one hand, uses the other hand to manipulate "they system", and spouts lies to obfuscate what he's doing. He sucks up free benefits left and right that he does not merit. A LETTER FROM ANOTHER VICTIM OF RAPHAEL HOLOMAN-FRANKLIN, WHO KNEW RAFE WHEN HE LIVED IN ENGLAND

It happens from time to time that we receive a letter from someone out of Raphael Holoman-Franklin's past. The following is such a letter, from a victim in England, where Raphael lived in the late 80's, the second English victim to contact us. (See the posted list of known victims on this blog to get an idea of what kind of man Holoman-Franklin is.) Master of a fake "gentleman", religious and politically concerned persona, he's been deceiving, using, and scamming people and institutions for years: students, landlords, the infirm, churches, and, apparently, hotels as well. That he would stay in expensive lodgings without paying fits in perfectly with our experiences with him in Cambridge, MA 2008/2009. He's pretentious, grandiose, self entitled, and delusional. He's graduated from important colleges who never heard of him, has worked for companies that never heard of him or which are fabricated by him, and is "British" (actually born as Hosea Franklin in Rossville, TN), with a fake accent and an equally fake Jamaican doctor-mother from an "old English family" who owns townhouses in London and New York City. When victims make their stories public, Rafey puts on his best saintly, wounded gentleman face and tells people that he's the victim of a conspiracy fomented by irrational people. Hi Hans,

I've just encountered your blog about Raphael, which pretty much accords with his behaviour in England c 1985 - 1991? I met him on a theology course run by All Souls Church, Langham Place, London. I later discovered that Raphael never paid the fees. In London I supported him with money and at one time I would have said he was my best friend! Though I clearly never knew him! He later stayed with me in Bedford until the police and immigration officials came hunting for him. He stayed with me again in Bedford while he was on remand and awaiting trial for fraud (I visited him at Brixton Prison in London). Our friendship deteriorated rapidly and when he left for his trial he stole one of my suits - my only suit as far as I remember! I had been informed that he had been staying in expensive hotels without paying both in London and abroad - Switzerland, I think. I presume he was deported after that.

In London Raphael worked his way from the Church of England into the Catholic Church (Heythrop College and the Jesuit home at Farm Street).

I am very sorry to hear that he has become so desperate that he has taken to falsely accusing others. It is right that he is exposed.

The last contact I had with him was a year or two back when he was campaigning for Obama and I came across him through a web-search. We exchanged a few emails and then he mentioned he was going on a retreat...

I mentioned in earlier posts that thief and scam artist Raphael Holoman-Franklin had accused me of rape, in the context of a fictitious 8 year "domestic relationship", in retaliation for having exposed his crimes on the internet for over a year, which was done to prevent him from getting new scam victims. A partial list of victims has likewise been posted. One of these was the Salvation Army, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Abbot Claude Peiffer of St. Bede Abbey in Peru, Ill., informed us that people from a church in Ft. Dodge contacted him to complain about one of their monks, who was in fact, Raphael Holoman-Franklin, passing himself off as a monk from St. Bede Abbey. Following is an email that I just received from the Ft. Dodge Salvation Army. As always, I invite sub-human Holoman-Franklin's defenders at the GAY MEN'S DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROJECT (who not only believe his unsubstantiated claims of rape and abuse, but who also seem to believe that Rafey Fakey can be in two places at the same time) to contact the sender of the email below for verification that it's real.

I have received a series of emails from our Corps current officer Captain Ron Cook, regarding the trail of “Brother Raphael’s” whereabouts. Raphael’s” so-called help was Captain Danielle Shields, who has since retired from the post and the SA.

as I returned from a 4 week trip to Europe Aug.8th 2009 and Raphael was already here, “helping”. I believe he said he had friends or relatives in the area, but he never shared where he was staying while in town.

I admit I grew increasingly suspicious of Raphael since day one (call it a gift of discernment if you will), little details just not adding up right about him. His actions spoke louder than his words; he did not live the life of a follower of God. Also his language, his choice of words, was not of someone who lives a life of a God committed monk. His overall conduct was less than professional. Raphael was very open about his homosexual orientation, yet, that did not stop him from being sexually suggestive towards me or Captain Dani. Since he claimed to be on a few weeks of vacation, he did not want to fill out a volunteer application – which would have to have been sent to TSA Divisional Headquarters in Omaha, NE for processing and background check.

From the day he showed up, Rafael took over the operations of our Compassion Kitchen Program, even though we did have a cook and a few kitchen volunteers. They soon began to notice large portions of food, meat going missing. He would also be asking for donations of food and various items for people in need he knew (I do not recall the exact story, but there always seemed to have been someone dependent on his provisions). Soon he also started showing up (just before our driver volunteer got there) at a local supermarket for donations that had been reserved for The Salvation Army. We had been forced to inform the store management that Brother Raphael was not a volunteer representing The Salvation Army and to not give him any products reserved for donations. After a few weeks of this experience, Captain Dani attempted to track down and contact Brother Rafael’s superiors – with very few results.

Once it was clear to Raphael that we were not susceptible to any more of his schemes he moved on. From what I later heard, there was more “volunteering” at another local food pantry (Holy Trinity Parish Pantry). It seemed he left town after a few months or so, as I did not see or hear of him anymore, until last April, when I saw him attend a local clergy meeting, trying to work his way back into the local pastoral circle. The last time I heard from Raphael was last fall (2010),

when he attempted to volunteer and cook for a new men’s shelter in town and called with a request for food donations. The shelter director Steve Roe asked Raphael to leave soon after, because Raphael refused to fill out a volunteer application and to be submitted to a background check. I attempted to contact the former officer in charge (Captain Danielle) to compile more information for you, but without a success.

This is all the information on Raphael that I am able to provide to my best knowledge and recollection. Hope you will find it helpful in clearing your name and reputation.

Raphael Holoman-Franklin, thief and scam artist, robbed Cambridge residents in 2008/2009 and has a long history of being what he is. In retaliation for having warned the public about him for over a year via web blogs,he recently perjured himself and accused me of abuse and rape, set in the context of a non-existent 2002-2010 "domestic relationship". After fleeing Cambridge, Raphael went to to St. Bede Abbey in Peru, Ilinois for 5 months, until victims from Cambridge and NYC found out where he was and contacted the abbot. Rafey was asked to leave. Some time later, Abbot Claude Peiffer was contacted by a woman from Ft. Dodge, Iowa, claiming that a "Brother Raphael from St. Bede" had visited her church, and that people gave him money. She wanted to know if he was in fact one of their monks. The abbot told her, "no". The abbot (who couldn't remember what church the woman had called from) gave me contact information for Holy Trinity, the only active Catholic parish in Ft. Dodge. (In recent years, others merged with it.) It's possible that Raphael went to one of the closed parishes, but the reply that I received from Holy Trinity re: Raphael Holoman-Franklin adds another dimension to his being a MASTER OF FAKE, and a sociopath. Here is that reply:

"Brother Raphael" has been in Fort Dodge on a number of occasions in the past years. We have no records of dates. He said he has relatives in the area. Holy Trinity Parish has given him no money and as far as we know has not been a problem for any of our parishioners. He has however caused the Salvation Army some concern. Msgr. Kevin had directed them to call the abbot he said he was affiliated with. Msgr. has also asked me to forward your emails to the local police.

If I hear of anyone with concerns I will forward them on to you.

Raphael Holoman-Franklin recently took out a restraining order against me based on a false claim of rape and abuse in the context of a FABRICATED domestic relationship that he said at court - UNDER OATH - lasted from 2002 to Sept. of 2010 at 29 Essex St., #2, Cambridge, MA. I have lived at my Essex St. address for 21 years with my actual domestic partner Joe, of 21 years.I registered to vote in Cambridge on 10-24-94. Joe, registered on 5-19-88.

A neighbor recently informed me that she checked Holoman-Franklin's voter registration in Cambridge. Raphael, who presents himself to the world as being oh so politically and socially concerned, FIRST REGISTERED to vote in Cambridge on 5-20-08; the very time that he moved in with us as a housemate, after coming here from his NYC rent scam. And for the next two years, his registration is INACTIVE. He never responded to the city census, and he NEVER VOTED in a single election after registering!

Why didn't this Obama blog creator, taker of Obama campaign contributions (he literally TOOK them), organizer of political "events" in Cambridge in 2008, and self styled paragon of political action, not vote here for two years after registering? Because he was busy scamming Trinity Church Boston, Clifford Truesdell, owner of 29 Essex in Cambridge, and Tom Queisser, owner of 16 Salem Street in Cambridge, out of big money. Then he high tailed it out of Cambridge to Hinsdale, Ill., St. Bede Abbey in Peru, Ill, and Ft. Dodge, Iowa. He returned to Cambridge and tried to get back into Queisser's Salem St. home with a copy of a key that he'd kept and unexpectedly found, to his chagrin, that Tom (who lives in Germany) was there. Rafe ran out the door, suitcase in hand, threatening to sue Mr. Queisser for changing the locks!.

Mr. Holoman-Fake next showed up in Cambridge, living on ESSEX ST.AGAIN, several doors down from his 2008 victims, "staying" with the King family, who smelled a "rat" and threw him out after contacting victim Cliff Truesdell. Next, Cambridge's favorite Scam Artist appears in New York State, popping up here and there, also getting his ugly butt thrown out of homes in places like Sound Beach. In Oct. of 2010, Mr. Dirt Bag ( SEE PHOTO) is back in Cambridge ("the city that he loves" as he stated on a recent job application with the city) as, TA DA!!!, a "rape victim", and he registers to vote in Cambridge AGAIN on 10-12-10 (still hasn't voted!), giving his address as 955 Mass. Ave., the address of the Gay Men's Domestic Violence Project, which is defending him and giving him solace in his false accusations. On 11-12-10, he updates his registration information, adding, "apt. 131".

He first registers to vote in Cambridge in 2008, though he told the court and the GMDVP that he lived at my address in Cambridge as my "abused and raped domestic partner" since 2002! Then, his registration is inactive for two years, with no replies to the census and no voting activity in Cambridge, to be renewed ONE MONTH after he claims to have fled "our home" in Sept. of 2010! This information is PUBLIC RECORD folks! I could not have falsified it. People at the GMDVP had better get their heads out of you know where if they want credibility. They are blindly defending a thief, who seeks to cover his tracks by making me - a person who has exposed his thievery on line for over a year - into a rapist whose word can't be trusted, and he's found the perfect, accommodating group to help him try to do it. In the case of the GMDVP, it isn't only "Justice" who is blind, nor is it only the "straight" community which perpetrates injustice against gay men.

Tom Queisser, of Heidelberg, Germany, was one of Raphael's 2008 Cambridge, Mass. scam victims. Holoman-Franklin conned people at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Cambridge into believing that he was a good person. On their recommendation, Raphael rented a Cambridge home owned by Mr. Queisser (rent free at first) and then defrauded him out of some $12,000 or more via a subletting scam. Yes, please send an actual letter. A signed letter from you, mailed from Germany, would be admissible as evidence in a court. An email or email attachment would not.

Also, I have found yet another scam victim of Holoman-Franklin. Raphael told us in 2008 that he worked for Trinity Church, Boston. After his first rent check bounced, he began to give us checks in the amount of the rent, issued by Trinity Church. He told us that he was having "problems with his bank that would be cleared up soon", and that he asked his employer to issue us the checks in the meantime.

As he recently charged me with rape in the context of a bogus 2002-2010 domestic relationship, I contacted Trinity to request a copy of his employment application, which would place him elswhere, outside of Cambridge, before 2008. Well surprise, surprise! He never worked for them! He received checks from them issued from a special fund for poor parishioners! I've asked Lori Bollinger, assistant to the rector, for a letter also, and sent a letter to your neighbor Gillian, asking her for one too. She was friendly with Raphael in 2008, and a signed letter from her would serve as evidence that he did not live with me as my "domestic partner" for eight years (I'm sure he told her that I and Joe Stein were his horrible housemates) and her mentioning your being defrauded via her would show that his motive in accusing me of rape was to make himself into a victim, and me the bad person. I really hope Gillian will respond.

Hello Mr. Queisser,

You kindly offered to write a letter (not an email) for me re: Raphael Holoman-Franklin, and I am now requesting this from you. It would simply state that you own property on Salem St., and that Raphael defrauded you out of a lot of money in 2008. His restraining order against me was vacated by a judge, but the charge of rape still exists on the books. I have no criminal history in relation to this charge, but it is neither proven nor unproven. Future employers and others will see it, and it could have a negative affect on my life, which is what Raphael intended. I seek to ask the court to expunge this record. I need to show that the claim of rape was false. I have written others for documents which will show that he was not in Cambridge for much of the 2002 - 2010 period in which he claims that he and I had a domestic relationship. I also wrote your neighbor Gillian, asking if she would also write a letter on my behalf. Raphael told her in 2008 that I was his housemate, not his long time "partner". He also told her (I believe) that he moved to Cambridge from New York City in 2008.

The Gay Men's Domestic Violence project serves a good cause, and has helped genuine victims of domestic violence in the gay community. That is a fact. But it is also fact that you have assisted a non-victim in creating a victim: me. You represent Raphael Holoman-Franklin, a former housemate from 2008. This man came to you recently, told you that he had been in an 8 year domestic relationship with me at my Cambridge address of 21 years, and that I raped him. I can understand that genuine rape victims sometimes have no proof of rape, but no proof for an 8 year relationship? Nothing to show for it and no request from you for anything relative to it?

Holoman-Franklin is a multi-state scam artist and thief, with a long history of it. His rape charge was retaliation for web blogs that expose his criminal history and warn others. Because his crimes are largely "civil matters", victims (whom he chooses carefully) must fend for themselves and most can't. A judge vacated a retraining order that you helped this fraud obtain against me, but I now have a non-criminal record that future employers and others may see, a record that could affect my life negatively, because a rape charge, in and of itself, was made.

A list of theft victims of this man is posted on our this blog and on the CCTV blog. It states names and gives in varying instances, physical addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, or fax numbers. Some are local, like Trinity Church in Boston. These are real victims of Raphael Holoman-Franklin, yet you couldn't bother to contact any of them. Doing so would reveal his true motive for the rape claim. Some of our blog posts are from early 2009 - posted over a YEAR before Holoman-Franklin told you that our non-existent relationship ended in Sept., 2010. The dates of posting cannot be altered. WHY would I have made such posts, telling people of his scams and asking for his whereabouts, over a YEAR BEFORE HE "FLED OUR HOME IN TERROR" IN SEPT. OF 2010? WHY?

You have assisted a thief and fraud, who has hurt many, in hurting one more. You have allowed your quest for justice to bring me to injustice. You have ignored glaring contradictions to Holoman-Franklin's claims so that you could add another "victory" to your book. When I came to court re: the restraining order, I hadn't a clue as to the basis for it. I had no way to prepare myself against unknown specific charges. I am obtaining documents now that will clearly show that Holoman-Franklin lived elsewhere during the period of our "violent relationship" and that he's a career criminal, the exposure of which was his motive in crying "rape". I pray that the court will accept them and expunge my record, a record that exists because a thief, fraud and liar lied, and because the Gay Men's Domestic Violence Project took his story as truth. Holoman-Franklin doesn't know what "truth" is. I hope to hell that someone at the Gay Men's Domestic Violence Project does, and will act accordingly. I AM A VICTIM OF A FAKE RAPE AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CHARGE. HELP ME.

Raphael Holoman-Franklin came to Cambridge in 2008 after scamming NYC victims, and was our housemate for two months. He told us that he worked for Trinity Church, and he paid rent with a check issued BY Trinity Church. We thought it odd, but he told us something that he's told other victims as well: that he was having problems with his bank that should be straightened out soon. He added that he had asked his employer, Trinity Church, to issue him checks in the amount of the rent. Because he recently took me to court, charging me with rape in the context of a fictitious 2002 - 2010 domestic relationship, I contacted Trinity today to request employment information that would place him elsewhere before 2008. GUESS WHAT? JUST GUESS????? He was never employed by them! He told Trinity Church that he was poor, and they issued him checks from a special fund! Raphael, you are an absolute JERK. You steal from EVERYBODY, even churches, and take me to court on a fabricated RAPE CHARGE???? My God, you will have your day in court!

Here's the reply that I received from Lori Bollinger, assistant to the rector at Trinity. And if you don't believe it's real, EMAIL HER, especially you people at the Gay Domestic Violence Project who have assisted this career criminal in falsely accusing me of rape! !!!

Raphael Holoman-Franklin is the man who scammed us for money two years ago. He robbed us… he NEVER worked for us. He had an extensive file and looked very official. The very idea that he is telling judges that he worked for us is extremely troubling.

So you see we cannot help with the information you seek as he was never an employee of any agency of Trinity Church. I’m sorry we can’t help you any further than that.

The following is from Rev. Claude Peiffer, abbot of St. Bede Benedictine Abbey in Peru, llinois. (Remember him Raphael? He sure as heck remembers you!) The abbot knows Raphael, and sent the following to me, NOTARIZED, on abbey stationary, stating that Holoman-Frankin was at the abbey in 2009 during the time that he claims he was in an abusive "domestic relationship" with me in Cambridge. I will send notarized copies to any interested parties, and am submitting one to the court as well. Next, I will be receiving court worthy copies of arrest warrants issued for Raphael in Washington, Idaho and Oregon for THEFTS which occurred also in the time span that he claims to have been in an 8 year violent relationship with me:

I herewith testify that Mr. Raphael Holoman-Franklin lived in our monastery from about the middle of February of 2009 until June 9, 2009. Prior to his coming here he had been living in Hinsdale, IL, where he had established contacts with the pastor of St. Isaac Jogues Parish, with whom I spoke by telephone, and some lay people from that Catholic church. I do not know the length of his stay in Hinsdale, but believe that he had spent a month or two there after coming there from Cambridge, MA.

He asked to stay with us until Easter (which was on April 12 in 2009) in order to explore his professed interest in living the monastic life. Before Easter arrived, he asked to extend his stay and was permitted to do so, and on June 7 he formally requested admission to our postulancy. On that same day, however, I asked him to leave because of information that I had received from numerous sources alleging that he had been guilty of fraudulent activities and had misrepresented and falsified his personal history and his qualifications.

When leaving on June 9, he told me that he was going from here to England to visit his mother. But I soon learned that he had in fact returned to Cambridge, MA, where he was confronted by people whom he had defrauded. Some weeks later a lady phoned from Fort Dodge, IA, to say that he had appeared at the Catholic parish there, representing himself as a “brother from St. Bede Abbey” and was borrowing money from parishioners. He has not had further contact with our monastery since his departure, as far as I know.

As stated in the previous blog entry, scam artist Raphael Holoman-Franklin took out a false restraining order against me recently in retaliation for this blog. It's put a damper on his "second income". He accused me in court of raping him and beating him in the context of an 8 year fictitious domestic relationship. (He was our housemate for 2 months in 2008, prior to rent scamming Cambridge citizens.) In fact, entries on this blog warning people about him were first posted in early 2009, PREDATING his claim to have fled "abusive me" in Sept. of 2010 by over a year! He hadn't a shred of "proof" for his claims and the restraint order was vacated, but I must still attempt to have it expunged, and have written victims, plus the Seattle PD and the abbot of St. Bede Abbey in Illinois for notarized letters. These will place Rafey in locations other than Cambridge in the 2002-2010 period he claims to have lived with me as my (ughh) "partner", and also illustrate that the restraining order was obtained in retaliation for my having exposed his criminal past to an unsuspecting public. Sad that a thief and liar can make such claims, with benefit of free legal counsel, but that his victims have to hire their own lawyers. Rafe told the judge that he left "our home" in terror in Sept. of 2010. This blog warning people about his was created in early 2009. I can alter blog entries, but not the dates that they were posted. Interesting conflict.

MULTI-STATE THIEF AND FRAUD RAPHAEL HOLOMAN-FRANKLIN FILES FALSE RESTRAINING ORDER (VACATED) ACCUSING ME OF ASSAULT AND RAPE

Ok people, this has got to be one of the more bizarre days of my life. Then again, any experience with fruitcake Raphael Holoman-Franklin is going to be bizarre. (Or costly.) I have lived at my present address with my partner of 21 years for 21 years. My landlord will attest to this and we have things that prove this. Check our voter registration for example. Same address, 21 years. Raphael Holoman-Franklin was our housemate in 2008, for about two months, before he moved out and rent scammed our landlord, Clifford Truesdell, and another Cambridge landlord, Tom Queisser, out of thousands of dollars. He also stole from people in NYC and Fort Dodge, Iowa, and the states of Washington, Oregon and Idaho have outstanding warrants for his arrest. I have warned people about him for two years. Recently, I received a restraining order, taken out against me by Holoman-Franklin, who is back in Cambridge, acting like nothing ever happened. The fact that Tom Queisser is in Germany, and that Clifford died last spring, no doubt made him feel that it was safe to be here. Restraining orders can be obtained purely on alleged victim say so. I did not know the actual basis for the order until I got to court, had no way of knowing what I needed to defend myself against the allegations, and had 10 days of anxiety and sleeplessness over this. I am happy to say that the judge vacated the order, but I must still request that it be expunged from my record. The entire 6 hour time spent in court (with delays, interruptions, etc.) was unsettling, exactly as Rafey Fakey Holoman-Hoo Hoo intended.

Holoman-Franklin perjured himself over and over and put on quite the "victim" show. He told the court the following:

1. that he and I been "domestic partners" from 2002 - 2010 (at my address of 21 years, which must be news to my partner Joe of 21 years)

2. that I mentally abused him and physically beat him (Given the inability of our legal system to take this one man crime wave off the streets, I highly recommend these options to future victims, though I wouldn't use them myself.)

3. that I was an alcoholic,

4. that I destroyed his possessions,

5. that I threatened to kill him (see #2)

6. that I raped him several times and that he "fled our home in terror" and went to a hospital for "treatment". (Rape him? I told his lawyer that I wouldn't even shake his freaking hand.)

7. at some point in our fictitious multi-year relationship, I apparently also went to his "home in Montreal" in a drunken rage and destroyed his antique collection. Good Lord.

UPDATE TO #7: I RECENTLY SPOKE WITH GILLIAN MCMULLEN, OF 15 SALEM ST. IN CAMBRIDGE. RAPHAEL FEIGNED FRIENDSHIP AND USED HER TO GET TO HER NEIGHBOR, SCAM VICTIM TOM QUEISSER OF 16 SALEM ST. TOM LOST OVER $12,000. WHEN SHE MET RAPHAEL IN 2008, HE TOLD HER THAT HE HAD "COME TO CAMBRIDGE FROM MONTREAL", WHERE HE HAD BEEN IN AN "ABUSIVE RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS ALCOHOLIC ALGERIAN LOVER, WHO ASSAULTED HIM AND SMASHED HIS FURNITURE". SOUND FAMILIAR?)

Rafe went to a hospital in western MA some time ago, where he complained of chest pains and took an AIDS test, and it is a document related to this that he presented as "proof" of his claims. Rafe has made several hospital visits over the years when wanting sympathy or when stalling for time, a ploy which he's used before. In 1990, he didn't pay rent to housemate John Loftus in England where he was living, kept disappearing, and told Loftus that he was "being treated at a hospital for cancer". Charges were made against me without a shred of evidence (other than a hospital document) and victim-Rafe was defended by a lawyer from a Boston gay domestic violence organization who, with an associate, seemed only more than happy to believe every word that Holoman-Franklin said and comforted him when the judge announced her decision. I think that domestic violence support is wonderful, but if you attempt to prosecute alleged offenders with no proof, then you serve an exalted ideal, and not people. Think "Salem, 1692". Rafe's lawyer wasn't defending a "victim". He was unwittingly helping Holoman-Franklin turn ME into one. There was no police report, no evidence presented that anything said against me was true. Funny, but if you have a 6 or 7 year domestic relationship with someone, there will be letters addressed to you at the shared address, emails, magazine subscriptions, voter registration records, photographs of the "couple", even testimony from landlord or friends who knew the "couple" AS a couple - SOMETHING - proving that each half of the couple lived together at the same address during a certain time span. Rafe had none of this nor could he. He lied. To add to the "authenticity" of his charges against me, this dirt bag demands the legal right to come to our home "to get his things". He HAS no things here and hasn't since he left two years ago. AND GET THIS: the restraining order that he obtained was addressed to me with an incorrect first name that I've never used in my life, and a surname horribly misspelled. You live with someone for several years and don't know their name or how to spell it?

Holoman-Franklin also claimed that I left a message on his answering machine, threatening to kill him, though his lawyer flip flopped between "kill" and "harm". The judge asked him about a recording of the call, and Rafe, all forlorn and sad, told her that he "deleted it because it was just too terrifying to hear". Even the judge rolled her eyes, wordlessly saying, "Give me a break". Emails that I submitted from Capt. Ron Wilson of the Seattle PD, Rev. Claude Peiffer, abbot of St. Bede Abbey in Illinois, and numerous theft victims of Holoman-Franklin were not accepted by the judge as evidence, as Rafe's lawyer said they had been "altered" and couldn't be proven to be real. He's most welcome to come to my home and print them out for himself, and I know full well that had I threatened Rafe WITH an email, Mr. Lawyer would have been waiving it in the air as "evidence". Funny how that works. He's also welcomed to phone, fax or email the dozen or so victims of Raphael and others listed on our victims blog. But he won't of course. His job is to prove that Raphael's vengeance-oriented fantasy is "fact".

I was in disbelief at Holoman-Franklin's perjury and audacity. We hadn't seen him for 2 years, though during that time, we were at times informed by new victims and would be victims of his whereabouts. Thrown out of two homes and fired from one job in the Sound beach, N.Y. area this past summer, for example. The restraining order was - I know - retaliation for our blogs and posted warnings about this strange little man. That someone like him can put another person through something like this, based on his "say so", with no evidence, but that a dozen or more theft victims of this fraud can't get Holoman-Franklin into a courtroom, based on THEIR say so, WITH evidence, is ludicrous. People: do not let this man into your lives. If he scams people and you make a stink of it, he may lie and take you to court. Better to avoid him totally at the beginning than get sucked into the black hole that he is. Don't hire him, rent to him, or trust him. Holoman-Franklin has backed himself into a corner, his past is catching up to him, he wants to silence or limit those who expose him for what he is, and he does this by becoming a "victim" and attracting misguided do-gooders who just want to mother him and keep him all safe and snuggly.

What amazes me most is that no matter how outlandish his claims about himself or unbelievable his tales, some people will rally round him, forming a little coterie, defending him, and seeing only what he wants them to see. He's surrounded by people now who deal with gay domestic violence, and is using the gay community in the same way that he used the Episcopal Church community in 2008. His new 'friends", with all good intention, comfort him in his fake grief and need, but had better watch their wallets. If they'd just take a minute to email, fax or phone contacts on our victims blog, they'd know Rafe for the thief and fraud he is. And this is interesting: Holoman-Franklin LOVES to do volunteer work. It's part of his arsenal of "nice". He then uses contacts made through volunteering (like people at St. Peter's Church in Cambridge in 2008) to get to fresh scamming victims. Well guess who he has been doing volunteer work for recently? The man who falsely slandered me and accused me of horrific crimes, volunteers for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. (UPDATE! Bruce Bell from GLAD told me that Rafe is no longer associated with GLAD in any way. One for the good guys!)

Hello Hans,

First off, I am sorry for not replying sooner, I am currently on vacation in Mexico (my home country) and just saw your email. I am sorry to hear that Clifford has passed, especially because he had to go through such an ordeal in his last years because of Raphael. I have to acknowledge your efforts to maintain the blog about Raphael and keep a record of his actions. I googled Raphael before subletting a room from him and since there was no information available I assumed that it would be relatively safe to rent from him. Had there been a blog like yours at the time I would have saved myself a lot of trouble.

I will recount my experience with Raphael next. I am adding some information that I did not include in my letter to Clifford because the letter was intented to be used as part of a legal procedure so I only listed objetive facts. Here I am including some personal impressions about my relation with Raphael and how it affected me in hopes that the judge realizes the repercussions of Raphael's actions.

I met Raphael in 2007 in New York City where I was doing a summer intership and was looking for a place to stay. I contacted him through an add that he had posted on Craigslist. He presented himself as a PhD student in economics from Columbia University. He seemed to be a polite person and have some community involvement (he frequented a Mormon church in Uptown West Manhattan) plus, as I said before, I found no negative information about him on Google, so I decided to sublet from him.

I rented a room in his appartment in Washington Heights (he claimed that it belonged to his mother) from June 11 thru August 31 and paid him $3,375 ($675 for the month of June + $1,800 for the months of July and August + $900 as a security deposit). Raphael seemed very interested in renting all available rooms in the appartament so I ended up sleeping in the living room and sharing the place with three other roommates who were charged the same monthly rent. Raphael left the appartment in the last week of June. He said that he was going to visit his mother in England and that he should be back in the first week of September.

On August 4, Api Castano came to the appartment. He said that he was the actual lessee of the appartment and that Raphael had not paid the rent for the months of June and July. Mr Castano explained that he had emailed Raphael about this situation but he had received no answer from him. When talking with Mr Castano, we realized that Raphael was pocketing $3,600 a month (considering the rents of all rommates) for an appartment whose actual monthly rent was 750!

Although Mr Castano was kind enough to let us stay in the appartment while the rent problem was solved, the following weeks were really hard. I was worried all the time thinking that I might find my belongings on the street when I got back from work. I was also worried about having to find a new place and, above all, finding funds to pay the expenses that could arise from a potential eviction. As a student, I had limited funds and my internship was unpaid so thinking about getting more money was really stressful. Needless to say, this had an effect on my work performance. To make things worse, a three-day notice from the building's management arrived on August 21. I emailed Raphael explaining him this and he replied that he would send his lawyer to pick up the notice and solve the problem. Nobody came in the following weeks. He also said that he would move to Cambridge, MA in September because he had found a teaching position at Harvard Business School and that he would contact me then.

In the last week of August new roommates arrived (one of them was Myles Glynn). Raphael had not told us about Mr Glynn before so we supposed that he might have rented the appartment to more people. One of the new roommates emailed Raphael telling him that she was not happy with this situation and, as an answer, he asked her to leave. After that, and to our surprise after all what was going on, Raphael kept posting adds on Craigslist looking to sublet the place to other people!

I left the appartment on September 4, the new roommates allowed me to stay in the appartment until that date hoping that Raphael would come back, but he never did. After moving back to Medford, MA, I emailed Raphael on several occasions in order to get my $900-security deposit back, but did not get any answer from him. I joined other former roommates who were trying to find a legal solution but, as you may well know, this is a civil matter that would require investing (more) money and time on a trial where there is no guarantee of remuneration.

Hans, I cannot tell you enough how outrageous and sad it is for me to see people like Raphael who take advantage of flaws in the U.S. legal system, and use religious and community institutions, to remorselessly harm other people. To the best of my knowledge he is not taking money from those who are better off but from people like myself and many others who struggle to make a living. This is why efforts like your blog and warning other people about Raphael are important so that less people are harmed by him. I really hope that tomorrow's hearing makes Raphael understand how his actions affect other people not only financially but also emotionally.

HOLOMAN-FRANKLIN: CALCULATED THIEF AND SOCIOPATH

Scam artist Raphael Holoman Franklin (posing in the photo to the left with his "ain't I elegant, educated and refined" grin) has been stealing and scamming for at least 20 years. A brief recap: In 2008, he moved to Cambridge, MA, collected grass roots contributions to the Obama campaign, and pocketed them. He later scammed Cambridge, MA resident Clifford Truesdell, 29 Essex Street, out of thousands of dollars, and resident Tom Queisser of 16 Salem St. out of some $12,000. (See details in previous blog entries.) Despite having done these things, Holoman-Franklin (who fled to a monastery (!) in Peru,IL after his Cambridge escapades) returned to Cambridge in 2009 and moved in with an unsuspecting family (just several doors down from Cliff Truesdell!) until they Googled his name, spoke with Clifford, and threw him out. Raphael moved to cities in New York state, was fired from at least one job, and was thrown out of at least two apartments or homes because people found this blog.

In the fall of 2010, Holoman-Franklin returned AGAIN to the Cambridge, MA area, this time, applying for a job with the city. A city employee contacted us to give us a "heads up", and we posted yet another warning about him on the Cambridge Community Television web site. We were told by our tipster that he had Googled Holoman-Franklin's name in part because his resume was too good to be true. As Rafey falsifies everything about himself, this is not surprising. In this case, Holoman-Franklin claimed, among other things, to have been appointed - by the government of Israel no less - to head a charitable foundation. (On other resumes, he's "graduated" from All Souls College, Oxford, quite an accomplishment, as All Souls has no undergraduates, or Yale, or Harvard. In one instance, he claimed to have been working on a cruise ship "at sea" when he was actually passing bad checks in Seattle, WA. A further indication of the lack of veracity of this scam artist lies in the fact Rafey, when applying for this job with the City of Cambridge, gave his home address as 955 Mass. Ave., Apt. 131, Cambridge. This is the non-residential address of an office building and UPS store, and the property manager told us that he never heard of Holoman-Franklin. (Just imagine!)

If you are an employer or landlord, be warned: do not hire this man or rent to him. If he doesn't steal from you directly, he will use his living and employment circumstances to get to others. Holoman-Franklin belongs in jail. He is not to be trusted, and the nature of his crimes makes them "civil matters", meaning that the police do not want to get involved. If Holoman-Franklin rent scams you (his chief M.O.) then you are out of luck, unless you can hire a lawyer at your own expense, and remuneration is unlikely. The best way for people to protect themselves from this con-artist jerk is to SHUT HIM OUT, SHUN HIM AND AVOID HIM. If you learn that he's in your building, living on your street, know where he's employed, or know trusting people that he's "befriended", help potential victims out by directing them to this blog and warn them about him.

UPDATE!!!

Rafe, back in Cambridge MA, has had a restraining order issued against me, and I will make a court appearance later this week. He claims I pose a "threat" to him. I do - but not the physical kind. I have indeed expressed wishes that he suffer misfortune for all that he had brought to others, crimes with which the police will not get involved. I also told him that I hope some future victim beats him up instead of just throwing him out, as he has stolen for years and gotten away with it. I would not be the one doing the "beating" however.

The restraining order is retaliation. We are the first people in his miserable life apparently who have tried to warn others about him, and we have been successful at it for 2 years. Mr. Fraud is unhappy with that. His "career" isn't what it used to be, a career where he lies, steals and moves on with no repercussions, a "career" cloaked in secrecy. Now, he's been fired, not hired, and thrown out of houses because of his "history". As we contact police and churches in areas that he lives in (if we learn generally of his whereabouts) the restraining order "could" impact our ability to give people a heads up about this creep. Will post an update soon.

A HOLOMAN-FRANKLIN VICTIM FROM ENGLAND. IS THERE ANYONE THIS JERK HASN'T STOLEN FROM?

I was a victim of Rapheal's here in London, England some 20 years ago in 1990. He rented a room from me in my first apartment. I gave him my bank details to pay rent into my bank account but found after a few months nothing had been paid in. He explained it was the bank's problem and he would rectify it but nothing happened. Eventually I asked him to leave and he gave me an IOU for £1000 ( a lot of money on those days and certainly to me). Like other bloggers I was completely taken in by his charm and impeccable manners. When confronted and I asked him to leave he acquiesced without demur and a friend came and picked him up. He used to disappear from time to time and once told me he had a medical problem and had been admitted to a local cancer hospital-all untrue. He claimed to have friends in the classical music world including a well known singer here in the UK. I subsequently found out he had conned him as well. During his stay with me my apartment was burgled and I strongly suspect he was the culprit.He claimed to work for a small music charity. I am surprised he has never changed his name but I never heard from or about him again.

2. I have heard recently from Raphael Holoman who left a phone message with a clipped British accent. As he was a former student of mine (without the accent and known as Hosea Franklin) and as I have discovered this blog and the information it contains, I have refrained from returning his call. You may be interested to know that he currently seems to be in Northampton, MA and claims to be recovering from a 'procedure' at Cooley-Dickinson hospital. I back checked the phone and it was unlisted, a curious practice for a hospital, and the longitude and latitude I got from the number did not coincide with Cooley-Dickinson.

HOLOMAN-FRANKLIN DOES IT AGAIN

It's been a while since I've posted about Rafe Holoman-Franklin, multi-state scam artist and thief who swindled Cambridge, MA residents in 2009, and others before and since. We have on occasion received emails from people who have seen our victims blog, telling us where he is. We then contact the local police to give them a "heads up", and also contact area churches. The police usually thank us. The churches never respond. God forbid that they shouldn't trust someone, and Rafe, who just LOVES to go to church, (any church) counts on that. His fake religiosity is part of what makes his scams effective.

Typical. When Rafe moved in with us in 2009, he had us convinced that he was from England too, until it became apparent that he knew little about London - where he claims to come from. My mother's parents moved from Holland to London before WW2, so I have some knowledge of it. Good ol' "from an old English family, been to Oxford" Rafe was oblivious as to major city landmarks there that even I knew of. He also gave us the "priest" story. Rafe has been a Mormon, an Anglican, a Roman Catholic - he even had a voodoo priest come to bless his room when he moved in with us. Rafe uses religions like he uses people.

If we get information from the actual victim, we'll post it here. Should Rafe return to Cambridge (which he's done before) DON'T TRUST HIM!

I am a resident of Salem Street in Cambridge. I met Raphael Holoman-Franklin through my church, St. Peter's Espiscopal Church. Raphael became a kind, generous, and thoughtful friend and I enjoyed his company very much. He helped me to garden, he cooked meals for me, we had many interesting and entertaining conversations, and shared our thoughts about religious/spiritual matters. He seemed to be a person of great integrity. On the strength of his apparent character, a neighbor friend and I recommended Raphael as a tenant to our mutual friend, Mr. Queisser of Heidelberg.

I was profoundly astonished and mortified when I discovered that he had scammed Mr. Queisser, and I regret deeply that I was indirectly the cause of Mr. Queisser's being defrauded. I have concluded that Raphael is a sociopath: like so many sociopaths, he is charming, intelligent, deceitful and fraudulent, and apparently devoid of conscience. I have never in my life before experienced such a betrayal of my trust. For the record, I am not aware that Raphael ever took anything from me, and he never asked to borrow money from me. Churches and churchgoers are particularly easy prey for Raphael, because we welcome and reach out to others, and want to help those in need, and he takes advantage of this.

ABBOT CLAUDE WRITES A FOLLOW-UP LETTER RE: HOLOMAN-FRANKLIN

Raphael Holoman-Franklin (as many Cambridge, MA residents learned in 2008) is a multi-state scam artist and thief. Holoman-Franklin uses religion and political involvement to ingratiate himself to people. He then "borrows" money or rents and sublets apartments and houses from them, pockets the money, and flees. Holoman-Franklin was back in Cambridge in 2009, and attempted to "move in" with a family on Essex Street, just a few doors down from the home of scamming victims from last year. They asked him to leave after becoming suspicious of him and checking his background. Holoman-Franklin moves around a lot (understandably) and manages to find victim after victim.

After scamming Cambridge residents in 2008, Holoman-Franklin fled to Peru,Illinois and "hid out" at St. Bede Roman Catholic Abbey on pretense of wanting to become a monk. (see victim's blog for details)The abbot asked him to leave after victims contacted him. Rafe told people at the abbey that he was "going to England to see his (mythical) mother". He in fact first went to a parish in the Chicago area, told people there that he was a monk at St. Bede's, and borrowed money from at least two individuals with that lie. He then returned to Cambridge, MA using that money, and tried to get into the home of a 2008 scamming victim.

Before Rafe left St. Bede Abbey,the abbot contacted Clifford Truesdell of Cambridge, MA, one of Holoman-Franklin's 2008 victims. Recently, Mr. Truesdell received another letter from the abbot:

Dear Mr. Truesdell,

I have heard little about our friend Raphael since I last contacted you. The local police did not follow through on their promise to investigate further the Seattle matter, and the chief did not return my phone call to inquire about it.

I have, however, had a couple of phone calls. One was from a Mormon bishop in Massachusetts, who inquired in September about Raphael's presence here. I answered his questions truthfully, but then heard nothing further. Now, however, I have received an e-mail asking me to confirm the contents of a letter that I wrote last June to you and which has been posted on an internet blog by you, I think, or by Mr. Jaegerstaetter. I confirmed that the letter is accurately quoted and does represent our experience.

I seized the opportunity to ask about Raphael's Mormon membership. Bishop Karl Haglund responded that Raphael was baptized at their temple in Manhattan in 2007, and then participated regularly in their services in Montreal. He came to their church in Cambridge only
once before leaving for Illinois, presumably in 2008. In August of 2009 he contacted one of their members seeking help in finding a roommate and/or an apartment. After this they discovered your blog. The bishop says that he intends to call you.

Another phone call came some time ago, perhaps in October, from a Catholic lady (whose name I did not get) in Fort Dodge, IA. Raphael was there at the time, and was already known to them, as he had been there before. I think she said that he has a relative in the town. He told them
that he was now a monk at St. Bede Abbey, and she wanted to verify that, as she was somewhat suspicious of him. This was at least partly because he had borrowed money from a couple of members of the parish, herself included. She did not expect that it would be repaid, especially after she heard what I told her.

Bishop Haglund had another bit of information. He had succeeded in talking on the phone to a detective in the Seattle police department, who confirmed orally that they have an outstanding warrant on Raphael from 1999 for passing bad checks. They will not, however, confirm
warrants in writing.

In 2008, Holoman-Franklin rented a house on Salem Street in Cambridge, owned by Tom Queisser, who was living in Europe at the time. Holoman-Franklin sublet the place and pocketed the money. (See statement 3 in the "Victim's of Raphael Holoman-Franklin" post, which contains statements made by numerous scamming victims of Raphael Holoman-Franklin) He later fled Cambridge and went to St. Bede Abbey, in Peru, Illinois.

In early June of 2009, Holoman-Franklin was asked to leave Saint Bede Abbey. He told people there that he would be going to visit his (quite mythical) mother in London, and then would return to the US to work on “the Obama 2012 campaign.” (There is no Obama 2012 campaign, and won’t be until late 2010 at the earliest.) Instead, he returned to Cambridge, with the intention of moving back into Tom Queisser’s house at 16 Salem Street.

On June 13, H-F telephoned one Jillian, a Salem Street neighbor and one of the two people who (on the endorsement of Father Trottier, rector of Saint Peter’s Episcopal church in Cambridge) had recommended him to Queisser. He would be arriving by train on the 14th; could she pick him up at South Station? She asked Father Trottier for advice; he recommended she have nothing to do with H-F.

(There was a preliminary warning that H-F might be returning: Cleaning people had showed up again at 16 Salem, and they had not been arranged for by Queisser or his two local surrogates. Actually, it turned out that this was this eighth time they had cleaned since November, 2008. It was a team of four, “hired” by H-F. They were never paid, so the four ladies are bilked of some hundreds of dollars each. Yet further H-F victims, and these among the poorest.)

What H-F did not know was that Queisser, whom he had never met and whom he thought to be in Germany, was in fact in Cambridge –an emergency trip to clear up the huge financial mess H-F had created --$12,000 unpaid rent, $1,500 unpaid utility bills. (Not all of that had gone into H-F’s pockets, but most had.)

Queisser had of course changed the locks.

Sure enough, around 9:30 PM, H-F arrived at Salem Street in a taxi-cab, with two suitcases. When his key did not work, he went to Jillian’s home for help getting in. She had the pleasure of introducing him to Queisser. Dumbfounded, H-F departed --after threatening to sue Queisser for changing the locks!.

We presume that had he been able to get back in, he would have rented the place out to new subtenants, and bilked them too.

Readers - this blog was created by and for renters and property owners from several states in the U.S. who are scamming victims of a con artist named Raphael Holoman-Franklin. Statements regarding him have been made to police in Seattle, WA, New York City, NY, and Cambridge, MA. The blogs purpose is to warn the public of his many and continuing illegal activities. Holoman-Franklin lives a double life, involving himself with religion and charitable/social concerns on the one hand, and engaging in scamming and theft on the other. He's a rent scam artist who has stolen thousands of dollars from renters and property owners in several states over the past few years, including residents of Cambridge MA in 2008. He claims to be English and speaks with an accent, (he's a U.S. citizen, born in Rossville) TN) and uses social, political and religious concerns to deflect from his illegal activities. In New York City in 2007, he identified as a Mormon. In Cambridge in 2008, an Episcopalian. After leaving Cambridge, Holoman-Franklin fled to Peru, Illinois, where he stayed at St. Bede's Abbey, feigning interest in Roman Catholic monastic life. The head of the St. Bedes asked him to leave after scamming victims contacted him. Holoman-Franklin returned to Cambridge in 2009, and attempted to let himself into the home of an earlier scamming victim (see statement three) with a copy of a key that he'd kept. This victim had rented to him, based on recommendations from parishioners at St. Peter's Church in Cambridge.

Testimonies, letters and affidavits from victims now living in New York, Massachusetts, England, Belgium and Germany, are presented here. More will be added as other old or new victims come forward. Also posted is a letter from the Seattle, WA police dept, which has an outstanding warrant for the arrest of Holoman-Franklin for theft.

The intent of this site is to warn others about Holoman-Franklin. Rent scamming is treated as a civil matter, and victims must hire lawyers at their own expense, with little chance of receiving restitution. Holoman-Franklin does what he does with little fear of legal repurcussion. (Please note: contact information, if omitted from posted affidavits, is available upon request.)

Holoman-Franklin uses religious activities to appear moral, and to deflect attention away from his thefts. He continues to tell people that he is the "victim" of a conspiracy of lies, perpetrated by irrational people. In 2008, Holoman-Franklin also affiliated himself with Trinity Church in Boston, where he paraded around the altar every Sunday, dressed in robes. That church was notified of his illegal activities, and a warning re: Holoman-Franklin was sent to all of their clergy, as noted by the following exchange between one of the scamming victims and that office. SUMMARY: Raphael Holoman-Franklin and I entered into a short-term housing agreement for the property 29 Essex Street #1, Cambridge and the period starting September 10, 2008 and continuing through December 15, 2008. Holoman-Franklin received two checks from me totalling $2160, signed over $1440 to Clifford A. Truesdell, the landlord, and appropriated $720 for personal uses not consistent with our agreement. As a result, I paid an additional $161.38 above my expected liability of $2160 to cover utilities that Holoman-Franlin failed to act on as per our agreement. Affiant requests that any disposition of the case include full restitution, and suggest that in view of Holoman-Franklin’s track record of similar thefts, jail time is appropriate.

1. Since January 2008 I have been a Visiting Student at MITs Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). Concurrently, I am enrolled as a full time PhD student in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and split my time between Illinois and Massachusetts. While in Massachusetts, I use Craigslist to find short-term housing.

2. On September 9, 2008 I responded via email to a posting on Craigslist for housing near the Central Square area of Cambridge. Holoman-Franklin responded to my email that same day and we agreed to meet at 29 Essex St. #1 that afternoon.

1. Holoman-Franklin showed me the apartment, and I met Kent Leatham and Mykal Dortch who were already living in the unit, and Holoman-Franklin showed me the empty room that he had advertised on Craigslist.

1. On September 10, 2008 Holoman-Franklin and I signed an agreement whereby I would rent the empty room at 29 Essex Street #1 for $720 per month, with utilities, wireless internet, and cable television included. The agreement was to span September 10, 2008 through December 15, 2008 and I would owe $720 x 3 = $2160.

1. On September 10, 2008 I wrote Holoman-Franklin a check for $1440, and on October 12, 2008 I wrote Holoman-Franklin a check for $720. The $1440 check was signed over to Truesdell, while the $720 check was endorsed by Holoman-Franklin.

1. On November 13, 2008 Truesdell wrote an email to Leatham, Dortch, Jiang, and Myself informing us that the rent for 29 Essex Street #1 was not paid up and that Holoman-Franklin was appropriating our checks for personal purposes, rather than covering the utilities and rent for the unit as we had ageed.

1. Also on November 13, 2008 I emailed Truesdell about my specific and somewhat unusual circumstances where I was renting from the 15th of each month while the other tenants from the 1st of each month.

1. Truesdell had already agreed to waive the November rent liability for Leatham, Dortch, Jiang, and myself, and with my specific circumstances he also agreed to waive my portion of the rent liability for December.

1. I therefore took on additional liabilities above and beyond my agreement with Holoman-Franklin only for utilities, for which I paid an additional $161.38
28. Subsequent internet research and information provided by Truesdell has led me to learn that this is at least the third or fourth time that Holoman-Franklin has scammed and stolen in this manner.
29. Affiant asks that a criminal complaint issue against Holoman-Franklin.
30. Affiant asks that any resolution of the criminal complaint include full restitution.
31. Affiant recognizes that disposition of the criminal complaint (e.g. CWOF; probation; jail) lies in the discretion of the District Attorney’s office, but respectfully suggests that in view of Holoman-Franklin’s track record of such scams, at least some jail time and a long period of probation is called for.

DRAFT AFFIDAVIT OF CLIFFORD A. TRUESDELL IN SUPPORT OF
APPLICATION THAT A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT ISSUE AGAINST
RAPHAEL HOLOMAN-FRANKLIN

SUMMARY: Raphael Holoman-Franklin leased an apartment from me, sublet it to four sub-tenants, took checks from them for the rent and for utilities, and diverted the proceeds to his own behalf. All told, he stole $5,178.58 from me, and $1,583.03 (rent, $937.50; utilities $645.53) from the sub-tenants. (¶¶ 1 - 27) This is apparently at least the third, probably at least the fourth, theft of this sort Holoman-Franklin has perpetrated. (¶¶ 28 - 32) Affiant requests that any disposition of the case include full restitution, and suggests that in view of Holoman-Franklin’s track record of similar thefts, jail time is appropriate. (¶¶ 33-36)

1. I am the co-owner and resident manager of the three-unit apartment building at 29 Essex Street, Cambridge. I live in Unit 3. Units 1 and 2 are rented out.

2. On information and belief, Raphael Holoman-Franklin at present resides at 16 Salem Street, Cambridge.

3. Additional affidavits from subtenants Kent Leatham, Rais Jiang, Mykal Dortch and Michael Katelman in support of this application accompany this affidavit.

4. In June, 2008, the tenants in Unit 1 informed me that they would be moving out on the August 31, 2008 expiration of their lease.

5. Holoman-Franklin was living in Unit 2 at this time, but had been asked to move out by his roommates.

6. Holoman-Franklin asked me if he could lease Unit 1 from September 1, 2008 through August 31, 2009. I agreed. We agreed on a rent of $2,500 a month. There would be no security deposit, but he would pay me $2,500 last-in-advance rent in early August. We also agreed that he would arrange to have the utilities (Comcast cable internet, NStar Gas, and NStar Electric put into his name effective September 1.

7. Holoman-Franklin informed me that Kent Leatham, then a first floor tenant, would stay on as his subtenant until April 1, and that a Ms. Rais Jiang would move in as a subtenant September 1.

8. In early August, 2008, Holoman-Franklin made over to me a check for $1440 from Kent Leatham, and a check for $1440 from Rais Jiang. This $2,880 was $380 more than the $2,500 owed. Holoman-Franklin explained that the overage reflected the fact that Kent Leatham and Rais Jiang were paying their share of the utilities directly to him, and that he would adjust finances with them.

9. Holoman-Franklin had previously agreed that he would reimburse me for the expense of removing a large, heavy metal desk he had left in the front hall. Those expenses came to $142. I reimbursed myself for the $142, and informed Holoman-Franklin that I would apply the remaining $238 to the September rent. See my October 21, 2008 email to Holoman-Franklin, attached hereunto as Exhibit 1.

10. In September, 2009, Holoman-Franklin informed me that he would not move in until January, but that he would sublease to two additional subtenants, Mykal Dortch and Michael Katelman. In partial explanation, Holoman-Franklin told me that he would be campaigning out-of-state for Obama until Election Day.

11. I later learned that Holoman-Franklin had also arranged with Mykal Dortch and Michael Katelman for them to pay him both rent and utility monies. See their affidavits.

12. Family business consequent to the July 5 death of my step-mother required me to spend substantial parts of September, October and November in Baltimore, so I was not as on top of the situation as regards the rent as I normally would have been.

13. On my return from my September Baltimore trip, I found only a rent check in the amount of $1440, from Michael Katelman to Holoman-Franklin.and endorsed by him over to me. I telephoned him and left a message on his answering machine about this, informing him that, deducting the $1440 Katelman check and the $232 overage from the $2880 “last in advance,” there remained a September rent deficit of $822.

14. On September 30, 2008, Holoman-Franklin emailed me (email attached hereunto as Exhibit 2) and told me he would leave the October rent for me the next day. His email did not mention the question of the September rent.

15. The October rent did not materialize the next day, and on October 2 I traveled to Baltimore to preside over a memorial service for my father and stepmother. On my return, some week or more later, I found no check for the September rent. There was a check from one Hongyan Bang, on behalf of Rais Jiang, in the amount of $720, made out to Holoman-Franklin and endorsed by him to me, and a check from Kent Leatham, in the amount of $663.82, made out to Holoman-Franklin and endorsed to me, in the amount of $663.92. This left an October rent deficit of $1,116.08.

16. On October 21, 2008, I emailed Holoman-Franklin (Exhibit 5), setting forth the rent problems, and asking for checks for $822 (September), $1,116.08 (October), and $2,500 (November). I asked that the checks be sent to me at a Maryland address. See email, me to Holoman-Franklin, attached hereunto as Exhibit 3).

17. On October 21, 2008, Holoman-Franklin emailed me (Exhibit 4), courteously informing me that he was on the campaign trail for Obama, did not have his checkbook handy, but would get a bank check and send it to me in Maryland.

18. No such bank check or other check arrived.

19. On November 5 I emailed (Exhibit 5) Holoman-Franklin asking him, now that the election was over, to resolve the rent problem. This email was not answered, nor were telephone messages. I have had no communication from Holoman-Franklin since his email of October 21.

20. No check for the November, $2,500 rent awaited me on my return from Baltimore to Boston on November 11, 2009. All emails and phone calls from me to Holoman-Franklin have gone unanswered.

21. On November 13, I emailed Leatham, Jiang, Dortch and Katelman (Exhibit 6), alerting them to the fact that “Raphael has been taking your rent checks and, rather than signing them over to me, cashing them for his own use.” I said that, as far as I was concerned, they had paid their September, October and November rents, but asked they make out their December rent checks, totaling $2,500 to me. I also advised them to check with the utilities, because (as it turned out he indeed had) he might have misappropriated their utility payments.

22. I subsequently learned from Kent Leatham, Rais Jiang, Mykal Dortch and Michael Katelman that Holoman-Franklin had not paid the October and November utility bills, which forced them to pay those bills in order not to have the utilities shut off.

23. Leatham, Jiang and Dortch wrote me December rent checks for $625 each. Katelman, however, emailed me November 13 (Exhibit 7) that he had an agreement with Raphael to rent for the three month period September 15 through December 15; had written a check for $1440 first and last months’ rent (this check was made over to me; see ¶13 above) and, on October 12 a check for $720. (That check was not made over to me; it was, however, cashed.) He was thus paid up; and thus, in addition to the theft of part of the September and October rent, and all of the November rent, Holoman-Franklin stole the $625 Katelman December rent.

24. In total, the rent monies Holoman-Franklin stole from me amount to $4,241 ($822 September; $1,116.08 October; $2,500 November; $625 December).

25. The utility payments Holoman-Franklin stole from Leatham, Jiang, Dortch and Katelman total $645.53.

26. In addition, Holoman-Franklin in effect stole the last-month-in-advance $625 rental payments from Leatham, Jiang and Dortch. However, as I have agreed to split this loss with them, he stole $937.50 from them, and $937.50 from me.

27. Thus, in total, Holoman-Franklin stole $5,178.58 from me, and $1,583.03 from Leatham, Jiang, Katelman and Dortch.

28. Subsequent internet research has led me to learn that this is at least the third, and probably at least the fourth time that Holoman-Franklin has scammed and stolen in this manner.

29. Exhibit 8 indicates one such scam in Chicago. This is an internet “trace” of a Chicago Craiglist (housing) posting, now deleted and hence not available in full. I am attempting to develop further information about this.

30. Exhibit 9 is an internet posting to Holoman-Franklin’s blogsite by a ______, recounting how in New York City (in 2006) Holoman-Franklin “rented the same room to numerous persons, some from out of the country, so when they arrived there was no room for them, He split town with lots of security deposits and moved to Cambridge where he did the same thing.”

31. Exhibit 10 are two internet postings to the Cambridge Community Television website, also by Myles Glynn, to the same effect.

32. Exhibit 11 is an affidavit by Glynn recounting his knowledge of Holoman-Franklin’s scams in detail.

33. Affiant Truesdell and co-affiants Leatham, Jiang, Dortch and Katelman ask that a criminal complaint issue against Holoman-Franklin.

34. Affiants ask that any resolution of the criminal complaint include full restitution.

35. Affiants recognize that disposition of the criminal complaint (e.g. CWOF; probation; jail) lies in the discretion of the District Attorney’s office, but respectfully suggest that in view of Holoman-Franklin’s track record of such scams, at least some jail time and a long period of probation is called for.

Hello from Heidelberg, Germany,

I'm writing because I saw your mails when I tried to locate the above tenant of mine (he had rented and then sublet an apartment of mine in Cambridge), and saw your Blogs about the fraud he appears to have perpetrated.

Although I see the pattern and expect that there may be no recourse, I wanted to make contact with you. Do you know if there has been any action in locating Mr. Holoman-Franklin?

I'm taking the liberty of copying my neighbor who knew him and has helped me sort out this matter.

I'm afraid that you will discover more and more cases of defrauded "friends" of Raphael -- I am one of the international victims. I loaned and then rented my apartment (Salem Street, Cambridge) on the strength of two old and good friends, both involved in churches in the Boston area, who stood up for Raphael because he appeared such an outstanding and deserving man.

In my case, I lost ca. $7,000, after he 1. delayed paying rent, and then 2. illegally sublet the apartment and took off with all the money he collected. I am an academic presently living in Heidelberg, Germany, not a wealthy investor. The money that he stole has a direct impact on my family's well-being and my childrens' attendance in college.

What I resent the most is his masking such immoral and opportunistic behavior behind his (albeit convincing) veneer of christianity and social conscience. It gives a bad name to all authentically good people. I cannot judge whether he is a polished con man, or someone with serious personality disorders, but in any case I expect that many people like him are living a miserable life in Joliet instead of the good life on other people's money. He has caused a lot of economic and emotional distress to numerous people.

My name is Matt Fullerton. I was a student of the University of York in England, completing research with a collaborator at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, until November. Myself and my girlfriend were leaving the US, and could not extend our lease until November, so we were subletting from September. This included a stay in Raphael's home at 16 Salem St Cambridge during September and much on November. He took and never returned our deposit. He made phone and internet part of the agreement but had never paid his bill and these were disconnected shortly after we moved in. He made false claims about resolving the situation and then went off the radar until after Obama's election. He had told us we could stay on in November, 'if Obama wins the election', as he was working for the campaign (he said). In a sense then we got much of the value out of our lost deposit, and I feel thankful that the heating and electricity continued to work, and that no one else arrived to attempt to take the appartment.

I also worked for a long time (various periods from 2005 to 2009) at Cambridge Community Television, where I believe you have contacted Susan Fleischmann.

Raphael's work at CCTV, along with his campaigning and charitable work, and several religious endeavours leave me puzzled. While he gives the appearance of caring deeply about the world around him, he treats others in his business dealings with complete malice and disceit. I cannot judge his religious beliefs, but if he is sincere, I can only conclude that he has a mental health problem that allows him to act in such an inexplicable manner. Like everyone else, I would advise you that there is a high chance Raphael is either working for you to offset the guilt from his other dealings, or worse to fraudulantly obtain money from you.

Dear Abbot Peiffer,

I write to follow up on your recent email exchange with Hans Jaegerstatter.

There is indeed no criminal complaint against Holoman-Franklin. When I finally, belatedly (I have been in poor health) went to the Cambridge ``````````Police, they told me that as far as they were concerned this was a civil matter, and that I should sue him. That seems pointless, as the chance of collecting on a judgment is remote.

As regards the underlying allegations, however, they are true. I attach the affidavit (signed, I note, under pains and penalties of perjury) I submitted to the Cambridge Police Department. The affidavits of Rais Jiang, Mykal Dortch and Kent Leatham (referenced in my affidavit) I have only in hard copy, and will send them to you by post.

I also attach affidavits from Miles Glynn, Tom Van Maerken, and Guillermo Porras Cortes, three of Holoman-Franklin’s earlier New York victims. There are, I believe, other victims out there too, and if I can track them down I will send you information on them, but make no further assertions about them as I do. I will also forward to you my email correspondence with Holoman-Franklin, to which I also make reference in my affidavit.

Finally, I will forward to you a (somewhat incoherent) email from a recent Illinois victim.

It is, I suppose, conceivable that Jaegerstatter and I, out of some bizarre and willful malice, would go to the trouble of concocting seven affidavits and various items of email correspondence (including creating email addresses not our own). Or these allegations can be true.

I suggest you use Ockham’s razor to resolve this puzzle.

To whom it may concern :

I understand from your communication (thank you for forwarding this to
me, Myles) that the fraudulous misrepresentation of Raphael still
continues and that you would appreciate having some additional proof of
his scam practices. For this reason, I am including my story in
attachment to this mail. I am just one of the multiple victims of
Raphael in NYC, 2007.

Myles and I went to the police department of NYC in September 2007
(where we were seen by inspector Lock, if I remember well). It is true
that there is no official report or complaint resulting from this visit.
The reason for this is that the acts from Raphael against us were not
"criminal" (and hence the police couldn't do anything for us, even not
making a report) but only "fraudulous" (and hence the only possibility
would have been to bring him into court).

I am writing to support several claims that have been sent to you
recently regarding Raphael Holoman-Franklin. You may have probably
received my affidavit already through Mr Clifford Truesdell. My
information can be verified at the registrar's office of the Fletcher
School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University (617-627-3055).

Just to explain it to you briefly, I gave Raphael $3,400 to cover the
rent and security deposit of one of the rooms in his appartment during
the summer of 2007. He later disappeared, did not pay the rent to the
landlord (my roommates and I realized then that he had charged us over
three times the real cost of the appartment), and did not return our
security deposits. I have been in contact with Mr Myles Glynn ever
since. As it has been previously explained, it has not been possible to
take any legal action due to the characteristics of this crime.

The actions described here show that Raphael Holoman-Franklin does not
follow the principles of the Christian faith. Furthermore, he shows a
lot of flexibility regarding his religious beliefs. When I first met
him he had been ordained as a Mormon priest at the LDS Church located
in 1815 Riverside Dr, New York. You can verify this information at the
Church itself (212-567-3321). One year later, he was a member of the
Stewardship Committee of the Episcopal Trinity Church in Boston as can

I am from Chicago and I moved to NYC almost 2 years ago and rented an apt from Raphael Holoman- Franklin. He rented the same room to numerous people and left us with 6 months of past due rent and utility bills and 2 months security deposit. (personally over 2K). I went to the New York City Police department #33 and spoke with OFFICER TANNER (PLEASE NOT THE CORRECT NAME) at 212 927 3200 and they told me the same thing. Civil Matter and sue him, they would not even let me fill out a police report, they told me they have more to worry about than one scam artist. He did this to a Doctor, Tom Van Maerken., and we both went to the police again.

He takes advantage of others and there is a pattern of deceit that could be described in pages and pages of detail. Needless to say, I have come across MANY victims, including Matt Fullerton,
(a Harvard Student from England or Australia), Guillermo Porras-Cortes( A Tufts student from Mexico City) , Erika Iverson, (an aid worker from Africa) , who has official complaints filed in the state of Washington. Just to recap, the states he has pulled this same deceit in are: WASHINGTON, NEW YORK, MASSACHUSETS, and ILLINOIS. That is what I can confirm, perhaps there are more. This kind of behavior really hurt a lot of people. To be left in a city where you don't know anyone, with no money and no place to stay, imagine... I can guarantee I would not waste my time if this was not important.

HOLOMAN-FRANKLIN STOLE FROM HOMELESS VET

After scamming residents of Cambridge, Mass. in 2008, Raphael Holoman-Franklin fled to Illinois, as mentioned in another blog entry. He eventually "hid out" in a monastery there, but prior to doing so, he managed to take advantage of yet another trusting individual - a homeless man in Hinsdale. We post his letter here to further illustrate just what kind of person Holoman-Franklin is. He befriends people, wins their trust, impresses them with his good manners and (largely bogus) background, and then steals from them:

I thought it fit and necessary to contact you all concerning Raphael Holoman-Franklin after reading the blog on him. I am a homeless person in Du Page County Illinois PADS program. I met Raphael in October of 2008 and was very impressed by his " impeccable manners ". His story to me was that he was a doctoral candidate from Harvard in Economics and Finance. We became quick friends or so I thought...he even convinced a Financial Services firm in Chicago that he was a doctoral candidate, and was hired. The firm sublet him a house in Hinsdale Illinois at 443 South Clay Street.

My story is that I am homeless because my civil rights have been violated by my employer, the United States Postal Service repeatedly......The more that Raphael and I talked, he became apprised of my situation; he read all of the evidence and appeared to be shocked and offered to see if he could get me some help from Harvard Law School since he "was a doctoral candidate " from there. I gave him some evidentiary documentation and we even mailed this to a couple of people allegedly affiliated with Harvard Law, one Josh Rismuller and a Prof. Laurence Tribe, as well as other individuals not actually associated with Harvard. But as I recently found out, he is a fraud. I actually thought that I was going to get some help with this case, but alas, nothing but more disappointment.

He had my desktop computer set up in his house because he was supposed to be giving me lessons on the computer in computer literacy, and there were files on it which pertained to my current case, He also had a laptop of mine...with which he absconded. When I became apprised of his true nature...I rapidly went over to the house that he had been subletting and was able to recover most of my legal documents and my desktop computer, but alas and alack, my laptop was gone... I had been unable to get in touch with him for over two months to find out about the legal help from Harvard, so I had initiated a " Complaint of Replevin " in order to recover my property from him.

This is very disappointing and disheartening as I now had to do everything myself again pro se. And believe me, pro se is a losing situation. But I actually have no choice now, because if I do not go it alone again, then I have absolutely no chance of recovering my job whatsoever. I do not know what type of man would steal from a homeless, unemployed, disabled American veteran, but he obviously has no conscience of any type. The last time I talked to him was over the telephone on February 6 2009. He was supposed to call me when he returned from Washington. His last story to me was that President Obama had offered him a job on his economic recovery staff in Washington DC. I have not heard from him since then although I had been trying to get in touch with him. This is the reason that I had to file the " Complaint of Replevin " in order to get my personal property back from him. I put my personal desktop computer back in storage and wrote off the laptop and pair of shoes. When the sheriff served the warrant at the address in Hinsdale, I found out that he had moved over a month and a half prior.

"Generally we do not give out this kind of information via e-mail or telephone as we do not know with whom we are speaking. A request such as yours is generally directed to our Public Disclosure Unit (206-684-5481) where they would request additional information and identification from the requesting party.

To save time I will tell you we hold a valid warrant for this subject, but it is not extraditable outside of Washington, Oregon or Idaho. That means no law enforcement action can be taken on the warrant outside of those states.

SCAM ARTIST HOLOMAN-FRANKLIN ASKED TO LEAVE MONASTERY WHERE HE WAS IN HIDING

After scamming residents of Cambridge, MA out of thousands of dollars in 2008, Holoman-Franklin fled to Illinois, and eventually went to St. Bede Abbey in Peru, Illinois, on pretense of wanting to "become a monk". As he engages in religious activities while simultaneously scamming and stealing from people, there is obviously a conflict here. Victims tracked him down and contacted the abbot of the abbey. The following are excerpts from a letter which he sent to several scamming victims, after asking Holoman-Franklin to leave. NOTE: Red text was inserted by us for clarification.

"....we received a phone call from an acquaintance of Raphael’s in Hinsdale suggesting that our entering his name into Google would be informative. The allegations that appeared there prompted me to speak with the local police to find out if he is wanted by the police in places where he has lived before. They made inquiries through law enforcement channels and responded that neither the Cambridge nor the New York City police had any complaint about him on record." THE ABBOT IS CORRECT ABOUT THIS, BUT POLICE WERE INDEED CONTACTED RE: HOLOMAN-FRANKLIN IN THESE CITIES. NO COMPLAINTS ARE ON FILE, BECAUSE RENT SCAMMING IS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE A POLICE MATTER - FORMAL COMPLAINTS COULD NOT BE FILED. HOWEVER, POLICE IS SEATTLE, WA, DO HAVE SOMETHING ON FILE REGARDING HIM, AS THE ABBOT STATES: "There was, however, something from the Seattle police that corresponded to the time in which he claimed to have been employed by the Holland-America Cruise Lines in the Puget Sound area."

" I spoke with Raphael first about the Cambridge and NY allegations. He explained that all of these were calumnies that had been posted by two individuals, one in each city, who had become irrationally hostile to him, and his efforts to get them removed from the internet had been unsuccessful. This at first sight seemed plausible in view of the fact that the allegations that he was wanted by the police had proved incorrect. I then brought up the Seattle matter. Of this he claimed to know nothing, and suggested that it must be a result of identity theft, for he had once lost his billfold when living there. I replied that we could not under any circumstances accept a person for whom there is an outstanding warrant in another jurisdiction. He was confident that the matter could easily be cleared up by an attorney whom he had befriended in Hinsdale (I have checked this out, and the man is indeed a partner in a prestigious Chicago law firm and belongs to the Catholic parish in Hinsdale.) "

" We allowed him to extend his stay here after Easter, but the clarification of the Seattle matter was further delayed. Once he told me that the attorney had asked for more information (which I did not have) about the complaint, but by that time other disturbing allegations had arrived. By early May former acquaintances had learned that Raphael was here and began to contact us. In the past month I have been inundated with a flood of information not only from Cambridge and New York City, but also from Belgium and Germany. I am grateful to all of you who communicated with me by mail or telephone or e-mail. Some of this information was quite precise and detailed, and it enabled me to compile a dossier for the benefit of other monks who constitute my council and whose advice I solicited."

"The information that you have supplied certainly raises a lot of questions. The testimonies of so many people in regard to their being defrauded is very disturbing to us. In addition, the presence of some entries in the resumé or in his oral account that appear to be fabricated tend to raise doubts about still other assertions, even though some have been verified. Those that concern religious background are of course especially problematic for us. Under the circumstances it was not possible for us to allow Raphael to stay here, however much our experience of his behavior might recommend him. By a paradoxical coincidence he submitted a written request to be admitted to postulancy (the next stage in the admission process) on the very same day that I confronted him."

"The biggest mystery about Raphael for me has been that the person whom we have known here for four months (or thought we had known) is such a contrast to the information about him that we have received from others. How does one explain this? I had hoped that I might be able to persuade him to be completely honest with me and somehow to resolve this paradox. If the Raphael of the monastery is the genuine one, then could he acknowledge the existence of the other, repudiate the misdeeds of the evil doppelgänger, and undertake a genuine conversion—which would have to include restitution for the harm done to others?"

" The answer, unfortunately, proved to be negative. There was not much discussion. He denied everything and claimed that the allegations are all calumnies fabricated by enemies. In cases of fairly clear contradiction that I had presented to him he either presented facile but unconvincing explanations or simply ignored them. There was, however, no display of righteous anger, but only such a gracious acquiescence to my decision to terminate his stay that he almost made me feel that I was being unfair to him. By the next morning he had arranged everything about his departure, and a friend from Hinsdale came at 1:30 p.m. to retrieve him. He left a courteous note of thanks for the monks. He had told me that he would spend a few days with friends in the Chicago area and then intended to go to London to spend a month or so with his mother.
